I think that my biggest challenge to prioritizing my time with God is that I just let life get in the way. I can really relate to what Pastor Grant said this morning about "making a deal with God". I am the gal that has great intentions of getting up early to meet with God...but then the alarm goes off too early and I PROMISE to do it in the evening. Unfortuanely, the day all to often gets away from me and I never have that one on one time with God.

I think that today's message really motivated me to make spending time with God a true priority in my life. It is amazing that the God of all the universe, the creator of it all, wants to spend time with me....I need to jump at the opportunity to sit alone with him more often.

So far, I am learning that nothing beats the peace that I feel throughout the day when I spend a few moments with God in the stillness of the morning. As I looked back over my journal from last week, I noticed something interesting. On the days when I had some quiet time with God later in the day, my handwriting was very neat, and my prayers were very specific. I was talking to God. However, when I re-read my notes from my early morning moments with Him, my handwriting was a mess, but the thoughts written down were much more profound. They were about things that the Lord was telling me...reminders from scriptures read, promises made, and areas of my life that He is still working on. That said, I have already set up my coffe maker to start brewing at 5:30 tomorrow morning so that the Lord and I can begin a new week together...and this time I'll be listening!

I’ve liked this series and have appreciated the props Grant has used to make his point. He’s provided a great visual picture for me…the door, the wagon.

My biggest challenge is…remembering! I need to prioritize. I’ll sit for hours watching mindless TV when I could be using that time communicating with God. I just need to make the time. I have tried hard to find good books on tape and use my time in the car to listen to others share their thoughts. But even then I know I’m not taking the time to talk intimately with God. I can read all about a famous person but never really get to truly know him/her until I have that one-on-one experience. I need more one-on-one with God as much as I need to read about Him.

I liked the video this past week. I thought however as I listened to those interviewed, would God give me a straight answer? Jesus was the greatest story teller but He seldom provided a “yes” or “no.” He called upon his listeners to make up their own minds based upon the parables he told. We can all ask God the same question and may get different answers…all of which are correct. He needs each of us where we are and meets each of us where we are. God wants a relationship. He’s open. I need to be open as well. Just as with the people I deal with everyday, if I expect to have a meaningful relationship I must be open and responsive to them if I expect to call them friends.

1. The biggest challenge is trying to control things so that they do not supercede or take over the time I devote to God.

2. The biggest motivator for me is actually a deterrent---the scary plans that I could come up with instead of listening to God my creator who knows exactly what I should be doing with my time/life.

3. Time spent with God here on Earth is part of our eternity and thus time spent in fellowship with God now while we are here on Earth has eternal consequences.

I have always spent time with my Lord on my way to work as it just my Lord and I. But often times work is quite busy and I don't spend the time with Him during the day that I should. This week I started taking breaks each day and reading with Him and He has blessed me already today. There is a work situation that was a little difficult but my Lord is already taking care of it. He truly is my best friend and I want to spend more time with Him each day.

As a read today "time" itself is very important and what better way is there is spend it than with my Lord to communicate with Him and listen to what He has to say to me.

1. My biggest challenge with prioritizing alone time with God is me. I allow too many other things to take the place of the time I could be spending in intimacy with the God of the universe. I allow other people’s “needs” or my own schedule or desires to take the place of those moments when I could just listen and drink deeply from the well.

2. The thing that will motivate me to make time to listen to God a priority is the reminder that God wants what’s best for me and that that time will be of benefit to me. It may not always be pleasant as God reveals areas in my life that need change, but it will be good. As an added bonus there will also be times of pure joy as I connect intimately with God each day. I have experienced this and it draws me back to that place.

3. I’ve learned that while I know the value of this time alone, I need to see it not as a “legalistic” act that I must perform, but the chance to connect. God will not love me less if I miss my time with Him, but I will lose out on the opportunity for intimacy. He looks forward to our time together. He hears the quick prayers, but He desires much more.

Making sure I do it in the morning. I’m not a morning person, but I’ve learned that if I don’t make time with God in the morning, I struggle with having time with Him at all that day. No matter how great my intentions or how big my desires are to meet with God, if it doesn’t happen before the busyness of the day starts, it probably wont happen.
2. The thing that will motivate me to make time to listen to God a priority...
Consistently it is the things He teaches me. When I make time to listen to God, God always either encourages me, challenges me, or gives me the peace that I need. I truly miss our time together if it doesn’t happen.
3. What I've learned, and I hope will be an encouragement to others, about prioritizing time with God is....
God will speak into the very issue you are dealing with or working through. This morning I made time for God and once again, God spoke right into my heart and encouraged me in a way that only He could. I read a passage of scripture that reminded me of the strength that comes only from the Holy Spirit. It was a timely message.
