An Unbelievable Offer

1. What day this week will you schedule some time to sit with God and really open up to Him?

2. What was it like and what happened to be that open with God?

3. Now that you have opened up to God, how do you think you can keep that door open?

Friday is the day that I have schedule some "extra" time to be with God. I will keep you informed on how it goes.

This is the day that the Lord has made and this is definitely the day (and for the next 8 weeks) that I am really going to need his help. My supervisor is on an extended medical leave starting today and I’m doing some of her duties which will double the workload and stress too. So this is going to require some ongoing dialogue with God before, during and after the day to get me through this time period and with a good attitude.

When I came in this morning, more work has been placed on me but so far I have been getting through it with peace and calm and an upbeat attitude. I will continue to keep the doors wide open and communicate with God throughout the day, knowing and trusting that he is with me and will see me through every task at
hand.

I would like to be able to say that I already have sat down this week and really opened up to Him....but I haven't. It seems as though everytime I intend to schedule some really "heavy duty" time with God, life gets in the way. Becuase I know that breath prayers and a few minutes of reading my bible here and there aren't enough for the deeper relationship that I am desiring, I am making Thursday morning my sceduled time. I'll let you know how it goes.

One of the things that I have realized this week as I have spent time with God is that I believe God can move and answer my prayers, but I am not sure that I fully believe that He will. One of the things that I have been praying for is my family - I have been praying for years with only a few glimpses that God is moving. I believe that this is where that verse comes in that God is impressing on my heart (Hebrews 11:1). I am trusting God to increase my faith to really live out that verse - that I will be sure of the things I hope for and certain of the things that I cannot see.

More later . . .

1. Right from the get-go I was challenged by this question. As soon as I read it I instantly thought of all that was on my plate for the week, the responsibilities and the obligations. Then I was challenged by the unexpected things that cropped up. So here it is Friday and I still haven’t had that extended time to sit with God. But I have been dialoging with Him all week and look forward to a time even yet when I will be able to focus all of my attention on Him without distractions, to open up, and to listen. I know this is what I need and deep down what I desire.

2.During the “moments” when I have been still with God this week I have attempted to be
transparent and honest. I want that door to be wide open. I have been slowly working my way through one of the gospels this year. Everyday I am amazed to find that there is a verse or two that really speaks to me where I am. I have been attempting to listen more even in my busyness this week. I want a heart that is tuned to God, one that hears and responds humbly and willingly. God has reminded me this week to live “practicing the presence of God” in all of my daily life.

3.I know that I need to be honest before God everyday. I need to live with a God focus. I need to consistently practice the presence of God, worshipping Him in all I do, honoring Him and recognizing gratefully that He is my mercy-giver. He desires the best for me. I need to believe that, and remember that He is waiting, daily knocking.

I have been spending moments each day with God and I plan to have extended time with him tonight.

My challenge is to make time for God each morning and not just as I drive to work, even though I use that time to talk to Him too. I have found it is easy to tell Him things while driving, but I am too distracted to be able to HEAR HIM.

I know when I do spend quality time with God he rewards me greatly with His wise counsel and encouragment. I love that He quietly tells me that He is in control, especially when it comes to my kids. When I despair of them ever getting close to the Lord again, He lets me know that He is watching over them and WILL NOT give up on them and I shouldn't either. PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!

1. What day this week will you schedule some time to sit with God and really open up to Him?

Here it is Saturday and I never did schedule a time, but found the time this afternoon for an hour where I was alone with God, outside in the peace, quiet, and beauty of nature.

2. What was it like and what happened to be that open with God?

It was very tranquil and a blessing. I'm always "open" with God, and this time I tried to listen to His voice and direction. At a time when the future is a bit scarey, I was reassured that He will provide direction and resources, then I smiled as I looked back on my life and realized He always has!

3. Now that you have opened up to God, how do you think you can keep that door open?

I will try my best to make that time and really listen for his direction and assurance.

2. What was it like and what happened to be that open with God?

I made a promise to sit down on Friday and have an extended time with God. As I began that time, I was surprised at how much my mind was racing—I need to get this done, I forgot about this appointment, I’ve got a billion other things I could be doing right now. I really had to work to stay focused and disciplined--this was my extended time with God and I wanted it to be meaningful.

As I sat and listened to God, I became aware of a number of things I’ve never talked to God about. I’ve thought about them, I’ve talked to other about them, I’ve even thought that I talked to God about them, but when it comes down to it, I never really shared certain issues openly with Him. I spent the majority of time talking and journaling about my dreams and my disappointments. I spoke to God with a frankness that I never would have done in the past because I didn’t think it was reverent, or appropriate, or respectful. What I learned is God is a big God and great things happen when I don’t candy coat my thoughts and feelings.

This was the first time in a while that I didn’t make promises to God, or establish new commitments, or develop strategies. I just talked and listened. I guess you could say I got to experience what it is like to “dine with God.” It was a powerful moment.

3. Now that you have opened up to God, how do you think you can keep that door open?

Right now it is all about remembering that a relationship with God is about trust. The more I trust Him, the more willing I am to open the door and keep it open.

On Friday afternoon I was having a particularly rough time - I was feeling very discouraged and depressed. I sat down, opened up my Bible and closed my eyes. The moment I closed my eyes, I felt God say to me that I had lost my focus - I had taken my eyes off of Him and was looking at all of the situations around me. I looked down at my Bible and I had opened it to Psalm 141:8 - "But my eyes are fixed on You, O Sovereign Lord." I realized in that moment that God was right, I had lost my focus and began looking at my situations rather than at Him and as a result I had lost my peace. I am so grateful to a God who is so gentle and merciful, and who will always redirect and refocus us if we allow Him to. My prayer is to continue to be completely open and honest with Him as I trust Him to lead me.
